Perfect Secret Lair or the Big Woo?

On our way to Messina, Sicily we are passing Mt Stromboli. One of three active volcanos in Italy, it has been erupting continuously for last 2000 years. Because it glows red at night It is nicknamed the “Lighthouse of the Mediterranean”.

Mt Stromboli is quite famous in literature as well. Jules Verne concluded Journey to the Center of the Earth on Stromboli and JRR Tolkien identified Mount Doom in Mordor with the volcano.

James in yet another obscure movie reference, thinks it looks like the “Big Woo” in Joe Versus the Volcano.

I vote for the Big Woo.

This afternoon we will be visiting near the second of the active volcanos, Mt Etna. Later on in the trip we will get to the third, Vesuvius.

Mount Stromboli is at 38.47N, 15.12 E.
